10 Tips to Preserve Your Diamond Jewelry

A good understanding of diamonds is necessary before you begin shopping. A diamond is a crystal made up entirely of carbon atoms that are arranged in an isometric, or cubic, matrix. Diamonds may be the hardest substance on earth, but they are not indestructible. So here are 10 tips to preserve your diamond jewelry:

  1. Never wear your diamond jewelry when doing rough work.
  2. Don’t store your diamond jewelry next to other jewelry pieces as this can cause scratches.
  3. Keep your precious pieces in a fabric-lined jewel case.
  4. Regular cleaning will keep your diamond jewelry in gleaming condition and ready to sparkle on that special occasion.
  5. If possible, use a cleaning solution recommended by the jeweler where you bought your diamond jewelry from.
  6. Some cleaning compounds that are oil-based such as soaps and other lotions will cover diamonds with a thin film layer making the diamond somewhat dull and lifeless.
  7. If your diamond has been treated or altered in any way, it may need special attention and care.
  8.  You can clean your diamonds by soaking them in a glass of vodka.
  9. Take your diamond jewelry to a jeweler every six months to have it professionally cleaned and to have it checked for loose or bent prongs and wear.
  10. Don’t leave your ring on the rim of a sink when you remove it to wash your hands. It can easily slip down the drain.

If you’ve kept your diamonds well-preserved, you may wish to find a diamond buyer to help you sell them online.
