If you have little space to work with, you’ll need to be smart with your storage. There are clever tricks you can deploy to utilise the space of even the smallest of rooms. Let natural light in, make use of areas you’ve forgotten about and hide the unwanted clutter in your home. Here are some ways you can be savvy with your storage space.
Bookshelves
As well as storing books, CDs, DVDs, games and vinyl, a tall bookshelf can be used to store other items. Add wicker baskets to store makeup and toiletries in each open space. Use the spare shelves to display your favourite pairs of shoes, plants or decorative boxes. With a tall bookshelf, it can be good to mix up what you’re storing in each section. The use of both boxes and shoes on alternative shelves, for example, will look aesthetically pleasing while providing great storage.
Under bed storage
One of the easiest ways you can add space back into a room is with under bed storage. Beds from the Divan Beds Centre are a great option as the rolling draws means that your items are easily accessible. Divan Beds are great for keeping fabrics, such as spare quilts, towels, bedding and clothes, tucked neatly away. An added bonus is that the enclosed space will reduce the risk of moth holes and dust from ruining your fabrics.
Kitchen storage
With crockery, pots, pans, utensils, cutlery, spices, jars and tins, a kitchen can be a cluttered place. With lots to fit in, finding the right storage can turn your kitchen nightmare, into a cooking dream. Be savvy with your storage and give things a set space. Put flour, sugar, oats, cereal and salt in glass jars to keep fresh and neatly displayed on shelves, or in a cupboard. Hang pots, pans and utensils on railings, hooks or magnetic strips, which are great for sticking to scissors and sharp cooking knives. If you’re having a total kitchen makeover, design cupboards that have draws fitted so you’ll be able to find that certain spice easier.
Attic renovation
Revamping an attic is a big task. Whether you’re transforming the attic into a spare bedroom, wardrobe, or you just want to use it for storing Christmas decorations for 11 months of the year, you’ll want to make sure you utilise the space. One way you can make a room seem bigger is to fit storage at multiple levels. If you have a wardrobe across one wall and low-level shelves or cabinets running across the other, it’ll create more light, making the room seem bigger.
Under stair storage
There’s so much you can do with under stair storage. Build a desk under the stairs for a new work area or add a cushioned cabinet for a great reading nook. Fill the space with cushions to transform a small cove into a comfy pet cubby. If you’ve got a messy shoe cupboard under
the stairs, make better use of the space. Add rolling drawers, so you can push coats and shoes out of sight when not in use. There are lots of ways you can revamp the area under your stairs, you’ll just have to figure out what you need the space for to make it truly beneficial.
